    M.Sc. in Computational Social Science IIT Jodhpur Application Process

    Application Procedure - Applicants are requested to use the following link to fill and submit the application form online: https://oa.iitj.ac.in/OA_PG_ADMISSION/ For admission to the First Semester of the AY 2022-2023 commencing in July 2022, this online link will remain active till 15 May 2022. Applicants belonging to GEN-UR, GEN-EWS, and OBC categories are required to pay a processing fee of Rs.300 online, while SC, ST, and PD applicants need to pay Rs.150 during the submission of their application forms.

    Ques: How do I apply for this program?

    Ques: What are the eligibility criteria for enrolling in MSc in CSS? Any prerequisites? 

    Ans: 3- or 4-yr undergraduates with 1st class or 6/10 CPI or CGPA and specialization in Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and all other Engineering disciplines.     Ques: How does the final selection take place? 

    Ans: The selection process for the programme will be a written exam and/or Interview. Details are available at: https://oa.iitj.ac.in/OA_PG_ADMISSION The test will be an online objective test of 90 minutes duration. The test would be designed such that it assesses the candidate’s capability in verbal/non-verbal reasoning, language comprehension, and numerical/quantitative ability. The interview will involve and interaction process with the candidates. 

    Ques: What are the specializations of the course? Where can I find the courses in the program? 

    Ans: There are two specializations: 

    i) Computational Sociology

    Ques: Do we have to choose a specialization in the second year or is it a stand-alone degree in Computational Social Science? 

    Ans: You will be offered two specializations, out of which you may choose one in consultation with the faculty of the program. However, there will be a curated option which requires approval of the faculty and a study plan. In that case, your degree will only mention MSc in Computational Social Science. 

    Ques: Are we free to choose either of the specializations, regardless of prior background? 

    Ans: Yes, but your performance in the courses relevant to the proposed specialization will be evaluated. Only if this performance is satisfactory (as per institute regulations), will you be allowed to pursue the chosen specialization. Ques: Is there any scholarship offered for pursuing the program? Ans: Selected candidates with a valid GATE score may get a fellowship based on funding available, and as per the Ministry of Education rules. 

    Ques: What are the prospective job opportunities for someone with an MSc degree in Computational Social Science? 

    Ans: The program will equip students with theoretical, technical, and application-oriented knowledge that will enable them to construct, improve, analyze and apply theoretically informed models to understand social processes/phenomena, bridging disciplines and technical expertise. The program is designed to enable and equip the learners to adopt and master computational approaches to the social sciences so that they can significantly contribute to the coming age of AI and data-driven technology. The program would be suitable for roles in industry as well as research organizations (impact evaluation/development/policy) and think tanks. 

    Ques: Will there be training in an industry? 

    Ans: Yes, towards the end of the first year, there will be opportunities for internships in various industry roles. In addition, in the last semester of the program, students will be required to complete a project, which can again take the form of internships in various roles in industry or development/research organizations and think tanks.

    Ques: What are the withdrawal and refund policy of the MSc programme at IITJ? 

    Ans: This is as per IIT Jodhpur rules and regulations. 

    Ques: Is the hostel facility available? What is the occupancy of the Hostel rooms? 

    Ans: Yes, hostel facilities are available. All students of the MSc program are required to stay on campus. The institute provides state-of-the-art hostel facilities to all the candidates enrolled in the MSc program. Each student is allotted a room with a table, chair, cupboard and a bed. All rooms are provided with internet facilities.
